Derek Olson is a senior litigator with extensive experience in civil and administrative law. He acts for a wide range of clients, from large corporations to small business and individuals in a variety of matters, including shareholder disputes, personal injury/medical malpractice, insurance litigation, expropriations, arbitrations/mediations and construction disputes. Derek has appeared before all levels of court in Manitoba, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Courts. He has also appeared before various tribunals and commissions. Derek was the Senior Associate Commission Counsel to the Honourable Ted Hughes, Q.C. for the Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry.

Derek taught Civil Procedure at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law, has served as an instructor for the Bar Admission program at the Law Society of Manitoba and has edited materials for the Bar Admission program. Derek holds a B.A. and a L.L.B and was the recipient of several awards and scholarships. Notably, Derek had the third highest standing in 2nd year law, and won awards for highest marks in Evidence, Intellectual Property and Commercial Law. He was also on the Dean’s Honour List each year of Law School. 

Derek enjoys spending his time with his wife and three children. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and Manitoba Bar Association.
